Alex Thomson and Pepe Ribes have broken the Barcelona World Race record to the Straits of Gibraltar.
Thomson and Ribes skippers of HUGO BOSS entered the straits of Gibraltar in record time this evening at 19.30. It has taken Thomson and Ribes 2 days 5 hours and 50 minutes to get to the straits a critical area of the race. In previous editions the straits have provided the fleet with some of the windiest conditions in the race. The winds and sea state increase in this part of the race as the IMOCA 60’s race to leave the Mediterranean and head towards South Africa.
